Join Shreya for a relaxing Hatha Yoga practice and the celebration of ancient tradition surrounded by the work from the exhibition In Community. We will explore all aspects of yoga – from gratitude exercises, pranayama (breath work), and asana (exercises), to traditional meditation to relieve stress and cultivate inner peace. Come as you are, no experience is needed. Yoga mats will be provided. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Hosted by the USC Office of Religious and Spiritual Life (ORSL).

About the instructor:

Shreya Ranganathan is a certified Hatha Yoga instructor and senior Journalism student at USC Annenberg. Ranganathan fell in love with Hatha practices when she traveled to India for the first time, and they helped her find light in darker situations. Shreya’s philosophy is that yoga should be a practice for everyone, regardless of race, class, and other barriers that have historically prevented BIPOC communities from participating. Ranganathan believes in yoga storytelling with the heart, the head, the mind, the spirit, and the breath. Through a holistic and authentic approach, true to ancient scriptures such as Patanjali Yoga Sutras and The Bhagavad-Gita, she hopes to change the stigma surrounding yoga and assist her peers on their journeys of healing.

About the exhibition:

In Community: Arts at Blue Roof at USC Fisher brings together works of art that explore the complexities of our human experience, as well as the relief and support that the community can offer. The five 2021–2022 Arts at Blue Roof artists-in-residence—Connie Martin Trevino, Carmen Mardónez, Noni Olabisi, Dalia Palacios, and Robin Strayhorn—manipulate clay, paper, recycled bedsheets, paint, and other media as they investigate themes of gender, race, religion, and mental health. Through the resulting art objects, the artists declare creative freedom, conjure fantastical underwater creatures, offer prayers to the ancestors, honor spiritual teachers, and explore motherhood. In Community: Arts at Blue Roof at USC Fisher is curated by Elissa Watters.
