About the instructor:
Shreya Ranganathan is a certified Hatha Yoga instructor and senior Journalism student at USC Annenberg. Ranganathan fell in love with Hatha practices when she traveled to India for the first time, and they helped her find light in darker situations. Shreya’s philosophy is that yoga should be a practice for everyone, regardless of race, class, and other barriers that have historically prevented BIPOC communities from participating. Ranganathan believes in yoga storytelling with the heart, the head, the mind, the spirit, and the breath. Through a holistic and authentic approach, true to ancient scriptures such as Patanjali Yoga Sutras and The Bhagavad-Gita, she hopes to change the stigma surrounding yoga and assist her peers on their journeys of healing.
About the installation:
Satu (2018-2022) is an immersive art installation that conjures up celestial visions. The title means One or Fullness in Bahasa Indonesian. Mulyana desires the viewer to experience a sense of calm while surrounded by white moguses (monsters), jellyfish, and coral islands. The rich textures and subtle tonal shifts of the knitted and crocheted sculptures are fabricated with different kinds of white yarn and single-use plastics, most of which have been repurposed or recycled.
This program is open to all eligible individuals. USC operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the university’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other prohibited factor.
