Speakers:
Heat transfer over porous interfaces
Shilpa Vijay, PhD Candidate in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering
Shilpa is a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering. Her research focus lies at the intersection of porous media flow, turbulence and heat transfer. In her free time, she likes to travel, hike and watch comedy shows.
Forecasting global soil moisture using deep learning and remote sensing observations
Archana Kannan, PhD Student in Electrical and Computer Engineering
Archana Kannan is a PhD student in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). She received her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Madras Institute of Technology, India in 2018. She got her Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from USC in 2020. She is currently a Graduate Research Assistant at MiXIL under the guidance of Prof. Moghaddam working towards her Ph.D. Her current focus is developing a high spatiotemporal resolution global soil moisture forecast model using antecedent remote sensing data. Other interests include soil moisture retrievals using passive microwave sensing resources, upscaling/downscaling methods for soil moisture, and designing PCBs for Wireless Sensor Networks.
This program is open to all eligible individuals. USC operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the university’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other prohibited factor.
