DESCRIPTION:As part of Latinx Heritage Month\, we are pleased to present a 
 screening of the documentary "Abuelita's Kitchen: Mexican Food Stories " f
 ollowed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and the abuelas. The eve
 ning will end with an intimate reception. \n\nThe documentary was produced
  by USC professor Sarah Portnoy and directed by USC alumnus and filmmaker 
 Ebony Bailey. \n\nThe film shares the food stories of ten Indigenous\, mes
 tiza\, Mexican American\, and Afro-Mexican grandmothers in Los Angeles. Th
 e film reveals the abuelas’ relationship to Mexican cuisine\, their birt
 hplaces in Mexico\, and the city of Los Angeles\, where the grandmothers l
 ive. They share their personal journeys as immigrants as well as their kno
 wledge about traditional dishes. These grandmothers have cooked\, preserve
 d\, and passed on Mexican food culture\, while creating communities and cu
