As part of Latinx Heritage Month, we are pleased to present a screening of the documentary "Abuelita's Kitchen: Mexican Food Stories " followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and the abuelas. The evening will end with an intimate reception.

The documentary was produced by USC professor Sarah Portnoy and directed by USC alumnus and filmmaker Ebony Bailey.

The film shares the food stories of ten Indigenous, mestiza, Mexican American, and Afro-Mexican grandmothers in Los Angeles. The film reveals the abuelas’ relationship to Mexican cuisine, their birthplaces in Mexico, and the city of Los Angeles, where the grandmothers live. They share their personal journeys as immigrants as well as their knowledge about traditional dishes. These grandmothers have cooked, preserved, and passed on Mexican food culture, while creating communities and cultures that are unique to Southern California.
