Abstract: In recent joint work (arXiv:2301.02618) with Penghui Li and Zhiwei Yun, we calculate invariant functions on spaces of commuting Lie group elements. Most of the argument in fact has nothing to do with commuting Lie group elements, but involves the topology of loop groups. In this talk, I'll present some of the key topology involved.
