"When I woke up on August 10, 2001 I knew that my future had changed. At 9 pm on August 9, 2001, President George W. Bush announced that the federal government would fund research on human embryonic stem cells; but only existing lines were eligible. I had generated 9 early stage hESC lines before August 9. This is what happened next, and for the next 21 years."
