The means by which relative proportion is established remains one of the classical unanswered questions in biology, impacting our understanding of development, regeneration, and evolution. We approached this question from a forward genetic and genomic approach performing genetic and phylogenetic screens looking at changes in fin length. Our findings center on variation in bioelectric signaling in the regulation of coordinated development and establishing relative proportion and expose a unique signaling system that may have broad roles in organizing development.

This program is open to all eligible individuals. USC operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the university’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other prohibited factor.
