Endogenous retinoic acid (RA) has been proposed to play a role in establishing positional axes during salamander limb regeneration. This presentation will provide evidence supporting the requirement for active degradation of RA to preserve the distal identity of regenerating cells. Furthermore, downstream targets of RA, which may regulate positional information, are identified and functionally tested.
