Epigenetic mechanisms of cellular plasticity and reprogramming to totipotency
Upon fertilization, the gametes, two highly differentiated cells undergo extensive epigenetic reprogramming to give rise to a totipotent cell, the zygote, capable to generate a new organism on its own. The intense chromatin remodeling that characterizes this period occurs at different levels of chromatin modification and organization, which I will discuss in my talk. In addition, I will also present our efforts to understand how we can reprogram cells in vitro, that acquire the molecular features of totipotent cells in the embryo.
