The USC Emeriti Center, Retired Faculty, and Staff are collaborating with the Volunteers of America Educational Talent Search program is offering a college personal statement BOOT CAMP on the USC campus, Saturday, November 9th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for students from Crenshaw, Dorsey, GALA, Locke and Los Angeles High Schools.

We are seeking volunteers from the USC faculty, staff and student population with skills in the following areas:
• Helping students get started in understanding and answering the college application prompts.
• Guiding the students in finding their personal stories.
• Reading and editing grammar, content, and spelling.

USC is looking forward to hosting 50 high school seniors and wish to have one on one volunteers to work with them in each of the above categories.

The workshop agenda is as follows:
9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Training session for all volunteers.
10 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Welcome session and orientation for students.
10:20 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Break out into the following three rotating 30-minute sessions:
— Session 1: Getting Started Answering the Prompt
— Session 2: Finding & Telling Your Story
— Session 3: Grammar and Content
12:20 p.m. – 12:25 p.m. Lunch will be served for students and all volunteers
1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Writing Session for all students.
2 p.m. – 3:30 p.mA student only tour of the USC campus will be offered.
