Talk Title: Genetic Diversity & Computational Engineering in the Age of Biobanks
The Center for Genetic Epidemiology is hosting a virtual seminar with Dr. Alexander Ioannidi, (https://ai-page.org, /), Adjunct Professor in Computational and Mathematical Engineering at Stanford and an incoming Assistant Professor of Biomolecular Engineering at UC Santa Cruz. He pursued his Ph.D. in Computational and Mathematical Engineering together with an M.S. in Management Science and Engineering (Numerical Optimization) at Stanford. Prior to that, he earned his B.A. summa cum laude in Chemistry and Physics from Harvard and an M.Phil in Computational Biology from Cambridge University on a Herchel Smith Fellowship. His research centers on computational methods development for problems in genomics and precision health with a focus on diverse and underrepresented populations, particularly Latin American and Pacific Islander groups. He teaches machine learning and deep learning and is a co-founder of Galatea Bio, which is building the Biobank of the Americas.
