USC students, faculty, and staff are invited to mark the International Day of Democracy with a fascinating discussion by esteemed USC faculty members about the institutions, information systems, and civic practices that sustain democratic societies—and the forces putting them at risk worldwide.

Moderated by USC President Beong-Soo Kim, the panel will feature USC professors Gordon Stables, Emilio Ferrara, and Eric Kramon.

After discussing the pressures facing democracies across the globe — polarization, eroding trust in institutions, AI-generated misinformation, and the weakening of independent journalism — the discussion will turn to possible solutions. The panel will also discuss the role of universities in supporting democracies under strain, followed by questions from the audience.

If you plan to attend, please respond by Friday, September 11 (RSVP Code: democracy26). Boxed lunch will be provided to the audience following the panel discussion, beginning at 11:50 am. Space is limited. USC ID required.

This program is open to all eligible individuals. USC operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the university’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other prohibited factor.
