In its first program of the year, Beyond Baroque hosts east coast poet, Nathan McClain alongside L.A.-based poets Angela Peñaredondo and Marci Vogel.

Nathan’s sophomore collection, Previously Owned (Four Way Books, 2022) is a daring collection in which the author interrogates his speaker’s American heritage, history, and responsibility. Poet John Murillo wrote about the book: “McClain’s second volume shows us a writer who, like Robert Hayden before him, neither ignores nor is encumbered by his country’s complicated history. His topics range widely and the whole of the human landscape—physical, psychological—is his, and ours, for the roaming.”

Nathan McClain teaches at Hampshire College and serves as Poetry Editor for The Massachusetts Review. Angela Peñaredondo is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at California State University, San Bernardino. Marci Vogel serves as a Dornsife Fellow in General Education at USC.

This program is open to all eligible individuals. USC operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the university’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other prohibited factor.
