In summer 2024 the USC Libraries hosted five USC students to work with our library faculty on research with primary source materials at the intersection of history and sustainability. Throughout the spring semester, the students will present the results of their work at a series of brown bag lunch talks in USC’s Sustainability Hub at the center of campus.

Join us on April 9th for a presentation by Celia Wood as she explores the transformation of Baldwin Hills Park through the archival records of Esther Feldman. Feldman, founder of Community Conservancy International, played a pivotal role in converting the Baldwin Hills area from oil fields into a sprawling urban park, balancing conservation efforts with competing development interests. Her documents reveal contrasting visions for urban land use, offering a compelling narrative on preserving natural spaces within a metropolitan landscape.
Part of a series of LUNCHTIME TALKS by the USC Libraries RESEARCH FELLOWS ON SUSTAINABILITY
