Formal and informal institutions, such as governments, legal systems and social norms not only play a key role in determining social and political activities, but also shape the business environment and thus affect firms’ decisions. However, institutions in the vast emerging markets are particularly poorly understood. This two-day conference aims to gather researchers from multiple disciplines to examine these institutions in China, which can be dramatically different from those of the developed economies, and how they affect doing business in such a fast growing country.
