Join the USC Department of Classics for a Work-in-Progress Talk by Merrick Anderson (Dept. of Philosophy, USC): In this talk, I will discuss an important observation in Plato’s work that is used by his immoralist characters in their presentations attempting to show that the unjust life is better than the just life. I call this observation the “Tatters to Tyranny Observation.” Key to this observation is that disenfranchised members of society can ascend to the highest positions of society through injustice. I will try to puzzle through some other central features with you. If time permits, I will discuss Laws and its response to the appeal of injustice.

This program is open to all eligible individuals. USC operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the university’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other prohibited factor.
