Join the USC Center for the Political Future and Urban Rural Action on Wednesday, October 15 at 5:00 pm for an interactive workshop in which participants will learn the ABCs of constructive conversation and engage in a discussion of whether hate speech should be protected under the First Amendment. Free dinner will be provided. This event will take place in SOS B44.

Is hate speech protected under the First Amendment? Or should it have limits? This thought-provoking discussion will cover the boundaries of free expression, the impact of harmful speech on communities, and the legal and ethical challenges of balancing liberty with protection. This event will bring together experts in law, policy, and civil rights to explore one of today’s most pressing questions: is hate speech free speech? Join us for an evening of connection and conversation that builds understanding across differences.

This workshop is brought to you by Urban Rural Action, a national grassroots movement that brings Americans together across differences to address our country's most urgent challenges. Joe Bubman, Executive Director of Urban Rural Action, and Christy Vines, Founding Executive Director at the Fuller Center for Peacebuilding & Conflict Transformation, will lead the workshop.

This program is open to all eligible individuals. USC operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the university’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other prohibited factor.
