In the context of COVID-19, adolescents and young people had a hard time carrying out COVID-related regulations impacting their self-care, putting them at risk of COVID-related infection and of exposing other people in their homes and communities to the virus. Despite the plethora of research around the pandemic, the social impacts on this population have to date been less explored.  This research was carried out using qualitative methods, based on 40 in-depth interviews with students from public high schools (16–19-year-old) living in areas of high social vulnerability in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The aim of the presentation is to discuss the emotional and social impacts of the pandemic on the lives of young people in São Paulo, the responses and strategies they mobilized, and to point towards potential lessons for the future.
