ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
If we look closely, patterns are all around. Just as a single thread can create a fabric, history repeats, and waves of feminism crash and rise again. Mending, sewing, and knitting circles create spaces for organizing change, reclaiming gendered tasks to create visuals that call us to step forward together. As today’s fashion trends favor the monochromatic, there is a simple mode of resistance found in loud colors, unapologetic patterns, and adorning yourself however you want. Through a series of textile and fashion designs about family, nature, and time, Cycles honors the strides made by women’s work past and present by reflecting on the power in existing and expressing yourself as you are.
