USC Annenberg alum Joan Wasylik (USC, MPR) leads a pragmatic discussion & Q&A about planning a career that makes a difference.

In developing your career path and plan, is making a positive impact on society, advocating for a specific cause, or shaping legislation and public policy, a key factor? In short, using your skills to improve the world we live in and/or help others live a better life. But how do you identify organisations and roles where your career can make a difference? Which is best - a large well-resourced international company or organisation (Goliath) or a smaller, more nimble institution (David)? Are there other options? Join us for an exploration of the choices and the realities, and the steps you can take while a student to know more about your options.

Joan Wasylik is an alumnus of USC Annenberg, holding a Masters in Public Relations. A Canadian native, since USC, her career has focused on developing and leading communications strategies and teams at blue-chip B2B multinationals, based in Europe. To date, she’s lived in 8 countries while working across automotive, energy, food, financial services and medical sectors.
