About this Event
650 Childs Way
Join the PIPE Collaborative for a research presentation by Megan Mullin (UCLA Luskin).
Despite broad public support, the condition of U.S. infrastructure is in decline. This talk draws on survey experiments with elected officials and the mass public to describe the political constraints on infrastructure investment and the contributions of local newspapers to reducing those constraints. Content-rich news reporting both boosts public support for preventive spending and reduces the incentive for politicians to pander to the preferences of uninformed voters. A community’s physical infrastructure, Mullin argues, is tied to a healthy news infrastructure.
After Megan’s talk, There will be a formal discussant.
Lunch will be provided and set out about 20-30 minutes before the talk begins.
