Peter Steinfels will open the 2019 Condon Lecture Series by presenting on the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report regarding sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. Steinfels published an essay in Commonweal in March calling into question the fairness of the report. Steinfels is an author and previously the senior religion editor for the New York Times. He has been a professor at Fordham University in New York City, and Co-Director of the Fordham Center on Religion and Culture. In 2003, he and his wife, Margaret O’Brien Steinfels, were the recipients of the Laetare Medal for service to the church and society from the University of Notre Dame.
