Paulson Lee is a Los Angeles based artist who explores the performative self, the exchange between material and immaterial, and the digital landscape of the internet through his painting, installation, and video practices. Trained as a painter, draftsman, and illustrator, he received his BFA from School of Visual Arts in New York City where he cemented his practice in making narrative-based work.

Paulson Lee’s solo exhibition, Sorry I’m Late, I Just Didn’t Want to Come, is a meditation, exploration, and celebration of introversion and isolation translated through the escapist languages of pop culture, mass media, and Southern California aesthetics. Utilizing satire and sincerity, Lee highlights both the sweetness of solitude and the anxiety of FOMO (fear of missing out) through his paintings that feature single figures and uninhabited installations. In a society currently succumbing to ennui, Lee’s exhibition speaks to the malaise of this very moment — communicating that it’s valid to take time for yourself.
