Join us for a special screening of the documentary Out of the Picture, presented in conjunction with the CRIT150 class. The film takes viewers inside the lives of some of today’s most relevant art writers, thinkers working to make sense of a period of unprecedented change in art and media. Over the course of more than a decade, the filmmakers followed critics navigating rapidly shifting cultural and journalistic landscapes, including Carolina Miranda of the Los Angeles Times; Hrag Vartanian of Hyperallergic; Jen Graves of The Stranger; Jeneé Osterheldt of The Boston Globe; and independent critic Seph Rodney.

Out of the Picture invites us to consider not only the evolving role of art criticism, but also broader questions about the nature of art, modern life, and how meaning is made in the 21st century.

Following the screening, we are pleased to host a related conversation with featured critic Carolina Miranda, who will reflect on her work and discuss the contemporary state and future of art and cultural criticism.
