DESCRIPTION:
USC students are invited to experience a guided tour of Olafur Eliasson: OPEN at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Little Tokyo. In line with the Berlin-based, Icelandic-Danish artist’s career-long exploration of light and color, geometry, and environmental awareness, OPEN playfully engages with material and immaterial qualities of the museum’s architecture. A series of large-scale optical devices designed specifically for MOCA Geffen will respond to the building itself, as well as to the everchanging atmosphere of Los Angeles. Visitors will encounter a dazzling range of sensory experiences that harness the laws of geometric optics to address feelings and concepts of embodiment, perception, and participation.

Please be advised that Olafur Eliasson: OPEN features low lighting in some galleries and one artwork with flashing lights.

Olafur Eliasson: OPEN is among the more than 70 exhibitions and programs presented as part of PST ART: Art & Science Collide. This landmark regional event explores the intersections of art and science, both past and present. PST ART is a Getty Initiative.

Olafur Eliasson: OPEN is organized by José Luis Blondet, Senior Curator, and Rebecca Lowery, Associate Curator, with Emilia Nicholson-Fajardo, Curatorial Assistant, and Anastasia Kahn, former Curatorial Assistant, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.

Presented by USC Visions and Voices.

This program is open to all eligible individuals. USC operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the university’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other prohibited factor.
