Dr. Emily F. Rothman ScD will receive the 2024 Patricia Buehler Legacy Award for Clinical Innovation with her Buehler Award Lecture titled ""Nothing About Us Without Us:" Meaningful Research Partnership with Autistic People to Promote Healthy Relationships." The Buehler Award is presented annually in honor of Patricia Buehler, a USC alumna who was dedicated to innovative clinical care for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Professor Rothman is chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy at Boston University's Sargent College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences. Rothman’s public health research has focused on understanding the etiology of, and preventing, intimate partner and sexual violence, and has also involved research on firearm violence, human trafficking and pornography. A through-line of these projects has been a focus on promoting health equity for marginalized populations, and in particular sexual and gender minority people, and Black, Indigenous and other people of color (BIPOC). In 2016, Rothman began a new line of research on autism, which takes a neurodiversity perspective and is conducted in partnership with autistic people. She has brought her scholarly interests together by developing interventions to prevent sexual and intimate partner violence for neurodiverse people.

1 contact hour (1.0 CEU) is available to licensed occupational therapists.

This program is open to all eligible individuals. USC operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the university’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other prohibited factor.
