Not Just Child’s Play: Using Developmental Science to Inform Addiction Science
Tuesday, May 18, 2021 12pm to 1pm
About this Event
Join Dr. H. Isabella Lanza, Associate Professor of Human Development and Director of Research for the College of Liberal Arts at California State University Long Beach (CSULB), for the next virtual IAS Speaker Series event. Addiction science has made a significant impact on intervention and treatment practices as well as policy implementation, but its interdisciplinary nature is fraught with disconnects across disciplines that weaken its position as a prominent science. Addiction science is likely to benefit by considering how other interdisciplinary fields both bridge the gap across represented disciplines and how these guiding principles can be integrated into addiction research. Developmental science has concurrently grown in popularity alongside addiction science, but to date addiction science has relegated developmental research to the back burner. This talk will highlight how key principles of developmental science can advance addiction science research, with a focus on adolescent and young adult substance use.
