Microtransit and Micromobility, initially hailed as environmentally friendly alternatives that would encourage households to give up one or more cars, have mostly increased congestion and pulled ridership out of transit and active modes. This talk will focus on the research examining the benefits to consumers, the costs in terms of congestion and sidewalk hazards, and the potential for more effective use of these services in the future.
Amelia Regan is a Professor of Computer Science and Transportation Systems Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. Her research interests include dynamic and stochastic network optimization, connected and automated vehicles, and pedestrian and cyclist safety. She has published more than 150 refereed conference papers and journal articles and her PhD students have taken faculty jobs at major universities in various countries.
