In 1936, anthropologists Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson married in Singapore and set off to do fieldwork on the island of Bali. In this conversation, Dr. Nancy Lutkehaus, USC professor of anthropology, will discuss their interest in using film, photography, and the Balinese paintings they commissioned artists to create for them to help them study what they identified as "Balinese character.”
