The Center for Education, Identity and Social Justice, co-directed by Professors Shafiqa Ahmadi and Darnell Cole, will host a one day conference for higher education administrators, leaders and scholars from across the nation to address law and policy issues related to social justice and intersectionality that inform and impact educational institutions. The purpose of the conference is to help institutions identify gaps in their policies and practices, specifically related to Title IX, Protests and Free Speech, Muslim Ban, and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Following the conference, we will create a post-event report outlining how higher education institutions can be proactive in addressing critical issues that impact students, staff, faculty and ultimately institutional survival.

The conference will feature two expert keynote speakers:

Tarana Burke, Founder of 'Me Too' Movement,  Senior Director of Girls for Gender Equity and Social Justice Activist

Michael A. Olivas, William B. Bates Distinguished Chair in Law and Director of the Institute for Higher Education Law and Governance at University of Houston
