DESCRIPTION:What is Kintsugi 2024?\n\nAs a metaphor of the precious celadon
bowl\, fractured and repaired\, and thus\, more treasured than ever\, thi
s gathering for Japanese Americans is focused on understanding our communi
ty trauma and exploring healing practices now and for the future. The prog
ram will take place in historic Little Tokyo\, Los Angeles and will featur
e speakers\, workshops\, and restorative practices. Participants will also
have ample time in intentional discussion and reflection groups to proces
s their experiences. Over the course of four days\, participants will lear
n more about what intergenerational trauma is\, and how Nikkei have unders
tood and responded to intergenerational trauma. We will engage in practice
s of repair and see solidarity action as one of those practices. As a mean
s of further strengthening our community we will also learn from other com
munities engaged in reparative work.\n\n \n\nKintsugi 2024 is rooted in th
e work of scholars and educators as well as traditional healers and psycho
logists who have studied Japanese American intergenerational community tra
uma. The gathering is based on an understanding that repair is possible an
d advances through individual healing and community organizing to mend the
connective tissue within communities. Through this collective healing pro
cess of community repair\, cultural reclamation\, and social justice pract
ices\, we can\, as a community\, interrupt the repetition of state violenc
 e. Participants will learn foundations of trauma and practices of intergen
erational repair in the Japanese American community and other communities
building reparative practices.\n\n \n\nThis event is led by Tsuru for Soli
darity and co-sponsored by the Japanese American National Museum and the I
 to Center\n\n \n\n \n\nWho should attend Kintsugi?\n\nWe are asking that p
articipants self-identify as Japanese American or Nikkei and must be at le
ast 18 years old.\n\n \n\nOther than that\, Kintsugi is for you. You DO NO
T need to have any previous knowledge of trauma\, intergenerational trauma
\, Japanese American culture or history.\n\n \n\nWe hope Kintsugi can gath
er a diverse range of Nikkei and Japanese American people.\n\n \n\n \n\nIm
