ARTIST STATEMENT

Sonder ● [sohn - dehrr] ● Noun

- Defined as the profound feeling of realizing that each person you pass has a life just as complex and vivid as your own. 

Sonder’d Paths questions our collective empathy as a society and showcases raw and intense emotion in different ways it can manifest. This exhibition explores how people cope with bottled up emotions and what unfolds from the release of them. For every intangible moment felt, I’m interested in exploring the materiality of the memory left behind and the ways in which we retain a connection via keepsakes and memorials. Through a collection of photographs and mixed media installations, Sonder'd Paths delves into both the intangible and materiality. By documenting various sites of remembrance in communities and Objects that hold the stories of the past, I’m inviting the viewer to consider what is left behind after an interaction with another person? Is it documented like a photo, or does it solely exist as a memory of what we felt in that moment?
