Talk Title: Addressing the Infectious Complications of the Opioid Epidemic in Appalachian Kentucky: The Kentucky Viral Hepatitis Treatment Project (KeY Treat)

Description: The people living in rural Appalachian communities in Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina were at the epicenter of the opioid crisis. Data from an ongoing cohort study initiated in 2008 among rural people using prescription opioids as well as a HCV elimination trial implemented in 2019 will be presented to illuminate both the scope of the problem as well as the challenges of addressing the impacts of the opioid epidemic in underresourced rural communities.
