On Saturday, October 26, the Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies will welcome Fr. Columba Stewart, O.S.B., an expert in ancient manuscripts, who will speak about his work at the Institute’s second annual thank-you event for friends and supporters of IACS. Fr. Stewart has been the executive director of the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library at St. John’s University in Minnesota since 2003. He has traveled extensively throughout the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and India, cultivating relationships with communities possessing manuscript collections from the early medieval to early modern periods. Fr. Stewart has overseen the expansion of HMML’s manuscript preservation projects in more than a dozen countries. His efforts to digitize rare manuscripts have earned HMML the National Medal of Honor from the Institute of Museum and Library Services—the highest award a library can receive in the United States.
