Assistant professor of history of the USC Dornsife College, Alice Baumgartner, will participate in a panel alongside fellow L.A. Times Book Prize finalists, Walter Johnson, a Winthrop Professor of History and Professor of African and African American Studies at Harvard University, and Martha S. Jones, a Society of Black Alumni Presidential Professor and professor of history at Johns Hopkins University, in a discussion that connects America’s past treatment of women, and indigenous and enslaved people with the present, taking a look at the people and the policies that have brought us to where we are today. Award-winning American historian who specializes in the history of racism in the 19th century, with a focus on the North, Anna-lisa Grace Cox, leads the conversation.
