A STUDENT LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATE PROGRAM presented by The USC Interfaith Joy Community. The training series is aimed at building connections across differences, countering hatred, and fostering a culture of engagement and belonging at USC and beyond. In partnership with the USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education,  The Center for the Political Future, and the Office of Religious & Spiritual Life.

Meals are provided during these 90-minute trainings. Students who attend all workshops will be presented with a certificate of completion. Space is limited to 35 participants.

Registration requested, but walk-ins welcome. 

Tuesday, March 7, 6pm - Storytelling & Testimony (Location: USC Shoah Foundation, 4th Floor, LVL 426) - Hosted by USC Shoah Foundation and based on its work with genocide testimony, this workshop will focus on best practices for framing our stories; connecting them to larger histories; and putting them to good use. First, how can we frame our stories in ways that humanize us (the tellers) and those closest to us? Next, how can we connect our personal stories to broader histories, such as that of large-scale conflicts? And, finally, how can we share our stories in ways that facilitate personal and societal healing, including by building connections across differences?

Tuesday, April 11, 6pm - 8pm - Facilitating Difficult Dialogues (Location: URC104) - Hosted by the Center for Political Future, and facilitated by Urban Rural Action. This training will focus on bringing peoples together across divides to tackle our campus's most urgent challenges to belonging.

Tuesday, February 28 - Listening  - In this listening training, Cat Moore, USC’s Director of Belonging, will guide participants through a series of exercises focused on: 1) Sharing our listening stories to activate personal experiences + ideas together 2) The Power of Listening - ABCs - attend, behold, care to create context of a whole life and transcend agendas to change people and 3) Conversational listening.

This program is open to all eligible individuals. USC operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the university’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other prohibited factor.
