This event features Barbara Ferrer PhD, MPH, MEd, Director, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Ferrer will discuss how public health infrastructure is continuing to address inequalities laid bare by COVID-19 while also preparing to address future pandemics as well other public health crises including extremes of weather, wildfires, and other manifestations of climate change; the opioid epidemic; and the accelerating problem of infectious diseases.  Bring your questions. 

Opening remarks will be given by Carolyn Meltzer, MD, Dean of Keck School of Medicine of USC and the May S. and John H. Hooval Dean’s Chair in Medicine. The event will be moderated by Howard Hu, MD, MPH, ScD, professor and Flora L. Thornton Chair of the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences. Panelists for this event will include professors of population and public health sciences David Conti, PhD, Frank Gilliland, PhD, Michele Kipke, PhD, also professor of pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
