The Visual Studies Graduate Certificate (VSGC)'s Racial Justice and Visibility Sub-committee will work to ensure that issues of race and the work of BIPOC scholars are continually centered in VSGC's initiatives. The group’s first action is the creation of a reading group that meets once a month to discuss issues pertaining to antiracist action and scholarship. The group will collaboratively compile a reading list of sources touching on questions of race in visual studies or works about race that participants would like to discuss in the context of visual studies.

The initial meeting dates are the following Mondays: September 14, October 19, and November 9 from 5-7pm. We hope to create a space where we may learn together and begin to reflect on racial justice within VSGC, USC, Los Angeles, and beyond. We also hope to generate discussion about concrete, long-term commitments VSGC can make moving forward. Please email Isabel Frampton Wade (iwade@usc.edu), Adam Gill (adamgill@usc.edu), Maddy Henkin (henkin@usc.edu) or Kathryn Poindexter (kpoindex@usc.edu) if you would like to participate in the reading group or if you'd like to become involved with the sub-committee more generally.
