Professor Arvas's research focuses on early modern literature and culture, comparative histories of sexuality and race, queer studies, trans history, cross-cultural encounters, and Islam in the Renaissance. His seminar paper title is "Sex and Race in Translation: The Case of al-Hasan al-Wazzan/Leo Africanus."
