https://dornsife.usc.edu/emsi/seminar-series/long-18th-century/The USC-Huntington Early Modern Studies Institute Long 18th Century Seminar will meet with David Alff, Associate Professor of English at SUNY-Buffalo, on November 15. Professor Alff's talk, "Rights of Way and Early Modern Infrastructure" traces the conceptual origins of infrastructure to early modern debates over the movement of people, goods, animals, and waste. Applying interpretive techniques derived from literary criticism, he shows how we can investigate built worlds of the past and present by reading the laws, contracts, edicts, and treatises that dedicate space to traffic.
