"Constructing Scarcity: The Political Ecology of Wood in Early Modern Ireland"

Keith Pluymers will present on fears of wood scarcity in Ireland at the beginning of the 17th century, between 1608 and 1615, and explore the connections between the attempts of King James I of England to locate extra-Parliamentary revenue and early modern mapping and surveying. 

Keith Pluymers is the Howard E. and Susanne C. Jessen Postdoctoral Instructor in the Humanities at Caltech, where his teaching focuses on environmental history, particularly in the early modern period. He has had articles published in Environmental History and the William & Mary Quarterly. His book project, "No Wood, No Kingdom: The Political Ecology of the English Atlantic World" is under contract with the University of Pennsylvania Press.
