About this Event
If you want to get to know Los Angeles, start with its food. Because food isn’t just about eating. It’s about who we are and how we live.
Join a group of USC Dornsife scholars, innovative chefs and a food activist as they describe how food can act as a passport to new neighborhoods and cultures in L.A. Learn where some of the most savory food is being prepared (no, it’s not necessarily in upscale restaurants) and how it reflects a mixed salad of traditions and cutting-edge creativity to make L.A. one of the world’s most exciting places to eat – and live. The discussion will be moderated by Assistant Professor (Teaching) Michael Petitti, who offers a class on this very topic. He’ll be joined by USC Dornsife Lecturer Xochitl Ruiz, who studies charitable food giving; Chef Nguyen Tran of Starry Kitchen and Button Mash; Chef Keith Garrett, a.k.a. Chef Ocho, of All Flavor No Grease; and Kathleen Blakistone of Moonwater Farm, which addresses food justice issues in L.A. So tie on a bib, bring your appetite and get ready to feast on a discussion that will spark your appetite and your intellect.
