  are pleased to announce the inaugural scholarly exchange in the USC Dorns
 ife-EHESS Partnership. This program invites one professor from USC and one
  professor from the Écoles des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales to spe
 nd a month as a visiting faculty in the partner institution within the reg

 or Law\, History and Culture presents a roundtable on The Limits of Transn
 ationalism \n\nTransnationalism means many things to many people\, from cr
 ossing physical borders to crossing intellectual ones. The Limits of Trans
 nationalism reassesses the overly optimistic narratives often associated w
 ith this malleable term\, revealing both the metaphorical and very real ob
 stacles for transnational mobility. Nancy L. Green begins her wide-ranging
  examination with the story of Frank Gueydan\, an early twentieth-century 
 American convicted of manufacturing fake wine in France who complained bit
 terly that he was neither able to get a fair trial there nor to enlist the
  help of US officials. Gueydan’s predicament opens the door for a series
  of inquiries into the past twenty-five years of transnational scholarship
 \, raising questions about the weaknesses of global networks and the slipp
 ery nature of citizenship ties for those who try to live transnational liv
 es. The Limits of Transnationalism serves as a cogent reminder of this top
 ic’s complexity\, calling for greater attention to be paid to the many b
 umps in the road.\n\nThe Author will be joined by panelists Donna Gabaccia
  and Sam Erman. Moderated by Jessica Marglin. \n\n \n\nProfessor Nancy L. 
 Green of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales will be the in
 augural Dornsife-EHESS Visiting Professor at USC\, in residence February 1
 -28\, 2022. Nancy L. Green is professor (directrice d’études) emerita o
 f history at the EHESS. She received her doctorate from the University of 
 Chicago and a doctorat d’état from the Université de Paris VII. A scho
 lar of migration history\, comparative methods\, and French and American s
 ocial history\, her recent major publications include Citizenship and Thos
 e Who Leave (co-ed. with François Weil)\; The Other Americans in Paris: B
