Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from a respected pioneer and expert in the field, Ozie Gonzaque.
Ozie Gonzaque is a notable figure who has made significant contributions to the City of Los Angeles. Born in Fordyce, Arkansas, Gonzaque moved to Los Angeles in the 1950s, where she became an active member of the community and was involved in various community organizations. Knowing her volunteer background, former Mayor Tom Bradley named her to the important Housing Authority Board of Commissioners of Los Angeles (HACLA) where she served for 18 years, the last eight as president. It was at HACLA that some of her greatest work was done. Few people outside of the City government knew this, but Mrs. Gonzaque is responsible for some of the major changes in public housing in Watts, East Los Angeles and around the nation. For those who are not aware, she is the major reason why public housing has begun to rid itself of its horrible history. Her dedication to community service and her passion for making a positive impact on the world has left a lasting legacy, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps and serve their communities. In addition to her work with the LAPD and her involvement in community activism, Gonzaque has also written a book titled "The Memoirs of Ozie B. Gonzaque: To Protect and Serve," which serves as a guide for individuals looking to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
Lunch will be served at 12:00pm and the program will start at 12:15pm.
