We all know reading is important.  “Deep reading” is thoughtful, deliberate, and slow—reading that leads to understanding, empathy, and enjoyment.  But how do our e-devices challenge our ability to read well and deeply?

In this presentation, Dr. Maryanne Wolf will explore how the reading brain came to be; how critical analysis and empathy developed in the deep reading brain; and how both can be either encouraged or threatened within digital culture. Join us for a fascinating presentation—relevant to parents, educators, readers, and all others living in our digital world!

Professor Maryanne Wolf is the Director of the Center for Dyslexia, Diverse Learners, and Social Justice in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA and the former John DiBiaggio Professor of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University where she directed the Center for Reading and Language Research.   She has won multiple awards for her scholarship and is a frequent speaker at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.
