This talk will focus on how the legacy and futures of the Caribbean are central to confronting the present crisis of global (neoliberal) capitalism and ecological imperialism in the era of climate change. It will examine recent climate disasters and draw lessons of resistance and livingness from the Caribbean experience. Dr. Perry will offer insights from his ongoing book project about why resistance and communal governance emerge in the face of hurricanes, and how the contemporary struggles of Caribbean communities demonstrate forms of communal repair, relations, and survival.
