“[Complexions Contemporary Ballet makes it] sensationally, jaw-droppingly clear that we live in the age of the super-dancer, at a time when technical virtuosity is being redefined as an expressive state.”—Dance Magazine
“The dancers effortlessly display a masterful command of a range of techniques as they embody the energy and beauty of a broad spectrum of musical styles that makes Bach, Handel, Metallica, and rock legend David Bowie seem like kissing cousins.”—New York Amsterdam News
“Dance should be about removing boundaries, not reinforcing them.”—Complexions Contemporary Ballet
Combining technical precision, power, and passion, Complexions Contemporary Ballet transcends tradition in a groundbreaking mix of styles ranging from ballet to hip hop. Founded by Desmond Richardson and Dwight Rhoden—former members of Alvin Ailey—the company has been featured several times on the hit show So You Think You Can Dance. The exhilarating program will feature Rhoden’s STARDUST, an “utterly transfixing” tribute to the life and music of David Bowie, full of glitter and glam. They will also perform Bach 25, set to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Complexions Contemporary Ballet was founded in 1994 by choreographer Dwight Rhoden and dancer Desmond Richardson with an aim to reinvent dance through a mix of methods, styles, and cultures. Today, Complexions is one of the most recognized and respected performing arts companies in the world, having performed on five continents to more than 20 million television viewers and more than 300,000 people in live audiences. Complexions has received the New York Times Critics’ Choice Award, among other honors.
