THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRSUMSTANCES.

This POSC 395 professional development event is on Tuesday, December 3 at 3:00 p.m. PT in our office in SOS B15. POSC 395 students must attend at least two professional development events throughout the semester.

Join us for a coffee talk with Dr. Maya Hernandez, the Next Generations Senior Manager at the Go for Broke National Education Center. In addition, she serves as a Research Consultant for the Wellesley Centers for Women and collaborates with the Center for Scholars & Storytellers. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Johns Hopkins University and earned her PhD in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine. In her role at Go for Broke, Maya leads the development of a national civic engagement and dialogue program aimed at empowering young adults. She also oversees a summer Journalism Institute in partnership with the Asian American Journalists Association of Los Angeles, focusing on elevating diverse voices in media.

Go for Broke was founded in 1989 with the mission to educate and inspire others through the courage and contributions of Japanese American World War II veterans. Over the years, the organization has built a national monument, trained over 3,000 teachers, and collected more than 1,200 oral history interviews from Nisei veterans and their contemporaries. Through its programs, Go for Broke continues to preserve and share these invaluable stories, fostering a deeper understanding of character, equality, and valor.

Students interested in attending should contact unruhins@usc.edu for more information and the signup link.
