ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Chrysalis explores the theme of protection through two bodies of work, highlighting the contrast between nurturing environments and the cold realities outside of the cocoon. Mixed-media and sculptural paintings visualize protection in nature, such as a cocoon and bird nest, and a relationship between mother and baby animals to depict maternal instincts and love. In contrast, I also portray myself in the real-life environment of the restaurant I used to work in, encircled by impersonal, cold objects. As a whole, Chrysalis reflects the lack of family protection I experienced and how it continues to affect my adulthood.
